Trinity Alps Resort

1750 Trinity Alps Rd., Trinity Center, California 96091

(530) 286-2205

Trinity Alps Resort occupies 90 private acres surrounded by half a million acres of wilderness in Trinity Center, with the kind of isolation that makes you feel like you’ve genuinely left civilization behind. The Stuart Fork, one of California’s finest wild rivers, flows right through the property and supports healthy populations of rainbow and brown trout if you’re interested in fishing.

The resort has maintained its 1920s character without the forced nostalgia—rustic buildings sit among old-growth forest and mountains with abundant wildlife. You’ll see deer regularly and hear the river constantly. Fifty private cabins line roughly a mile of riverfront, each one set far enough apart that you get real solitude and don’t feel like you’re in a resort at all.

The cabins themselves are genuinely rustic rather than Instagram-rustic. They range from one to two bedrooms, each with a sleeping veranda, bathroom with shower, and a full kitchen including stove, oven, and refrigerator. You get an outside barbecue and picnic table. The trade-off for the setting is that you’ll need to bring your own linens or sleeping bags—there’s nothing fancy happening here, which is exactly the point.

This works well if you’re traveling with a dog because the property’s size means your dog has genuine space to move around, and the river access is a real feature. The wilderness surrounding the resort means you’re in actual backcountry, not a manicured property. Dogs typically do better in this kind of environment than they do at more developed resorts, though you’ll want to confirm their specific dog policy before booking.

The appeal here isn’t amenities or services. It’s the particular combination of river access, old-growth forest, isolation from other guests, and the sense that you’re staying somewhere that’s been doing exactly this since before most California resorts existed. If you want modern hotel features, this isn’t it. If you want actual wilderness with running water and a roof, this delivers.
