Westport Beach RV Park & Campground

37700 North Highway 1, Westport, California

(707) -96-4-2964

Westport Beach RV Park sits on a bluff above the Pacific with immediate access to tide pools and a dark sand beach where dogs can run—a rare combination on the Mendocino coast. The campground sprawls across 75 full-hookup RV sites, 50 tent sites, and five group areas shaded by willow and Monterey pine, with the best tent pitches positioned right above the water. The setting feels genuinely coastal rather than manicured, and on clear days you’ll see the kind of raw ocean views that justify the drive out to this quieter stretch of Highway 1.

Dogs are allowed throughout the campground on-leash, and most campers keep their dogs loose on their own sites without incident—though the management expects owners to manage their dogs responsibly around other guests. The tent sites along the bluff edge offer the most dramatic dog-walking potential; early mornings there are nearly empty. RV sites come with full hookups (water, electric, sewer), while tent sites have no hookups but include picnic tables and fire rings. The group sites accommodate larger parties and can be reserved separately.

The beach directly below the campground is the main draw for dogs—low-tide access opens up sand and rocks for exploring, and the water is calm enough for wading during calmer weather. Trails wind through the campground property itself, though the real hiking happens on the broader Westport bluffs and headlands that begin just north and south of the park. The village of Westport is less than a mile south and consists of a handful of buildings, a small store, and a couple of restaurants. The nearest substantial services are in Fort Bragg, about 15 miles south. Sites fill quickly on summer weekends and during spring break, so advance reservations are essential. Winter and spring shoulder seasons offer the most solitude, though weather is unpredictable and you’ll need to expect wind and occasional rain.
