Yosemite Mariposa County tops many must-visit lists, especially for travelers with dogs. Lodging properties in and around Yosemite National Park are famously friendly to pups, and leashed dogs are allowed on most paved roads, paths and parking areas within the park. Of course, an area this extraordinary is also incredibly fragile. Yosemite Mariposa County’s Nature Rules program helps visitors protect the environmentally sensitive wonderland.

The Nature Rules campaign encourages guests to travel for good, which starts by respecting the natural wonders, people and pets encountered on the road. It means learning about local animals, plants, peaks and waterfalls. It includes exploring rich indigenous and cultural history. Yosemite Mariposa County voluntourism activities offer additional ways to engage.

One of the especially important Nature Rules is “Be Mariposa prepared.” When visiting Yosemite with your dog, stick to pet-friendly trails and watch for wild animals. Bring lots of water and share your plans if you’ll be hiking remote trails. To minimize park traffic congestion and make the most of a visit, arrive early and leave late. After all, sunrises and sunsets here are spectacular.

Save a critter, don’t litter” is another impactful rule. Pack out all waste bags and trash. Wipe down picnic tables. Fully extinguish any campfires. And to further protect the park’s wildlife and waterways, use eco-friendly brands of sunblock and bug spray.
